Reading a Floor Plan

A rendering sells a feeling; a floor plan tells you how you'll live. Start with the windows: count them, and check which way they face. Then walk the plan in your head from the front door — is the kitchen the first thing you see, or the view?
Look for the columns. In a tower they can land in the middle of a bedroom wall. Measure the closets. And check the terrace depth: anything under six feet is a place to stand, not a place to sit.
